Change My Password - If you know your current password and want to change it.

How important is my password security?  Your password allows access to:

• Mailing and billing addresses, possibly yours as well as your family's
• Grades and your degree audit
• Your W2, including your Social Security Number
• Billing and Payment history, possibly saved payment methods

Your password is not just for your email! There is a significant need to protect the security and integrity of everyone's account. For this reason, your password at Emerson College must adhere to a set of complexity requirements as described below.

Emerson advocates the use of a "pass phrase"—combining individual words that do not necessarily belong together to achieve length. Complexity can be added, such as spaces and capitalization. An example of a bad passphrase would be purplegreenbluered, because the words are related, but an example of a good passphrase might be "purple windowsill BLEEDING edge."

Change My Password

While Emerson does not impose password expirations, we advise that you periodically change your password to prevent the likelihood that it be compromised. If you suspect your account may have been compromised, definitely change it ASAP at myaccount.university.edu.

Note

To change your password, you must know your current password. If you have forgotten your current password, please see Forgot My Password

• If you know your current password and want to change it, visit myaccount.university.edu.

• Click Change password.

• Enter your username (firstname_lastname without "@emerson.edu"), current password, and then click Next.

• • After entering your current password, you can set a new one to change your password.
  • Enter a new password in the provided box and then enter it again to verify.
  • Your password must adhere to the following requirements:
  • at least 12 characters long with a max of 30 characters
  • may not contain 3 consecutive identical characters
  • must contain 1 upper case letter
  • must contain 1 lower case letter
  • must contain 1 number
  • must contain 1 symbol
  • may not resemble any personal information such as first or last name
  • may not resemble the old password
  • may not include blocked words like: "Emerson", "password", "123456", etc.
  • The checklist will update with green or red marks to show what criteria you are meeting.
  • Once your new password has been entered, click Next.

  

  • Once you reach this page, you have successfully changed your password and can begin using it to log into Emerson systems and applications.

  Forgot My Password

  If you have forgotten your password and need to reset it, navigate to myaccount.emerson.edu.

  This will only work if you have previously enrolled in Emerson's password management tool. If you have forgotten your password and not previously enrolled, please navigate to forgot.emerson.edu and follow the prompts.

  

  • Click Forgot my password.

  

  • Enter your username (firstname_lastname without "@emerson.edu") and click Next.

  

  • On the next page select Answer a personal question and enter a PIN code. Make sure you have your cell phone with you.

  Note

  If your cellphone is not accessible choose Answer standard and personal questions instead.

  • Click Next.

  

  • Here you will be prompted to answer the personal question you created when you enrolled in Emerson's password management tool. In Maurice's case, the question entered was "What was your first car?" but each user will have set their own personal question.
  • Type your answer in the box provided and click Next.

  

  • After correctly answering your security question, you will be sent a text message with a PIN code. You will be able to see the last four digits on the phone number it is being sent to.
  • Enter the 6 digit PIN code you were sent into the box provided and click Next.

  

  • After entering the PIN you were texted, you will have succesfully authenticated your identity and can reset your password.
  • Enter a new password in the provided box and then enter it again to verify.
  • Your password must adhere to the following requirements:
  • at least 12 characters long with a max of 30 characters
  • may not contain 3 consecutive identical characters

  • must contain 1 number
  • must contain 1 symbol
